Mohamed Salah: I Want To Win The Golden Boot Again

The record Premier League goal scorer promised improvement while Dominic Solanke celebrated his debut senior goal.

Champions League qualification, a Golden Boot, a league record and a couple of debut goals. With the pressure on, Liverpool romped to a 4-0 win over Brighton on the final matchday of the season to break a three-match winless streak and end the domestic campaign with a flourish.

One of the celebrants on the day was debut goal scorer, Dominic Solanke, who, after starting the preseason with such promise, had struggled this season to get off the mark in the senior side. The 20-year-old managed to break his duck at the final time of asking however, firing a first time strike in off the crossbar early in the second half.

“Amazing, especially to do it here in front of our fans,” the ecstatic Solanke said after the match. “I’ve been dreaming about scoring. I had to wait a while, which was quite annoying for me.

It’s always hard when you’re not scoring. You get chances here and there and it doesn’t quite go for you.

The Reds also managed to stave off a challenge to their Champions League position from fifth-place Chelsea, who lost 3-0 to Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle, to secure back-to-back seasons in Europe’s premier competition for the first time since 2010.

However the big story on the day was the newly-crowned Premier League Player of the Season, Mohamed Salah, who scored to take the Golden Boot despite a late push by three-time winner Harry Kane. In doing so, the dynamic Egyptian took his tally on the season to a Premier League record of 32 to cap off a magical first domestic campaign at Liverpool.

Salah said in the post-match interview. “It’s special to break the record here.”

With his season still to be extended with a Champions League final in two weeks and the summer’s World Cup, the question was asked whether the goal-happy forward’s magical season will be a one-off, flash-in-the-pan.

However, Salah was confident that this was just the beginning “I am trying to improve every year so I am very happy. I will [improve next year] don’t worry.

“The Golden Boot is very special. But it’s in my mind to help the team. I’m very proud.

”I will do my best to win the Golden Boot again, 100%.”
