Thomas Strakosha Rumors Rumble On For Liverpool
Reports from Italy suggest that Lazio have named a price for their keeper.
With the links between Liverpool and AS Roma keeper Alisson Becker dying a slow death during the World Cup, it was only a matter of time before there were reports of alternative targets as the Reds look to strengthen an area where supporters - rightfully or not - are clamoring for change.
Roma seem intent, at least for now, on sticking to their rather princely estimation of Alisson’s market value, and there are suggestions that Liverpool will refuse to pay the £65 million or so that Roma want for their keeper. If true, and if Jürgen Klopp does decide against sticking with just Loris Karius and Danny Ward, that means that Michael Edwards’ team will need to get creative to find an affordable stopper who represents an improvement over the current lot.
One name that has been mentioned with more frequency in recent days is Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha. The 23-year-old Albanian keeper offers both youth and promise (much like Karius did), though admittedly the sample size for assessing his performances at the top level is somewhat modest. Despite a style that some would describe as unorthodox, Strakosha managed to maintain 11 clean sheets for Lazio last season.
Reports from Italy are now claiming that Lazio will ask for €40 million from Liverpool, and that the Reds interest is concrete. If Alisson does indeed slip from Liverpool’s grasp and end up at Real Madrid, as seems to be likely at this point, look for the Strakosha rumors to intensify.
