With Alisson Nearing Real Madrid Move Liverpool Must Target Alternatives

Reports in Spain claim Madrid have agreed personal terms with the player, dashing any faint hopes of a Liverpool deal.

Despite a smattering of reports from Brazil that have tried to keep the story alive, it appears Alisson to Liverpool is well and truly not happening at this point and—according to reports in Spain at least—that’s all down to Real Madrid closing in on a deal for him.

For anyone hoping a genuine last minute surprise bid might sway the player towards Anfield, though, with Marca today saying the player has agreed personal terms and that the two clubs are working towards a compromise fee it’s probably time to let it go.

Last week, reports had Roma accepting the player would move on and granting permission to Madrid to discuss personal terms. And last week, too, reports had Liverpool moving on to alternate targets, having accepted that Alisson wasn’t a viable option.

Now, it’s just about bridging the valuation gap, with Roma askign for €70M and Madrid having so far offered €50M. Marca, for what it’s worth—and it’s usually worth a Madrid club briefing when it’s Marca—think a €60M compromise is what the deal will take.

With the World Cup on, some of the mania of the transfer window has been drowned out, but over the past week Liverpool have found themselves linked with Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha. There have also been tenuous links to Chelsea’s Thibault Courtois.

As yet, though, there has been little solid from the Liverpool end of things to give any real insight into who the club’s goalkeeper targets might be now that Alisson is off the table, leaving the only certainty that a goalkeeper must be signed this summer.
