Harry Wilson set for contract extension at Anfield
Harry Wilson is set to sign a new contract with Liverpool, according to The Liverpool Echo.
The Welshman is looking to break into Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the upcoming season, and he started well on the weekend against Chester bagging two goals in Liverpool’s opening pre-season game.
Liverpool want to reward Wilson after he has shown solid progress over the years and he only looks as if he will get better.
Liverpool have already rejected a loan offer from Celtic and there remains a number of Championship clubs looking to take Wilson on for a loan spell this season.
Klopp is yet to make a decision on what he will do with Wilson this season, and he is in no rush to do so.
“The dream of mine is to play regularly for Liverpool’s first team,” Wilson said, as quoted by The Liverpool Echo.
“At the moment I am getting the chance to train at Melwood and get minutes in the friendlies and my aim is to impress the manager and stay here. If that’s not possible then we will weigh up the options and go from there.
“If you are in his training squad then he’s given you the chance to impress him. I have to make sure I use that chance. Over the coming weeks I am sure we’ll sit down and see what the plans are.
“I am concentrating on doing well every day in training and hoping that first team opportunities will come.”

Wilson was superb for Hull City on loan last season scoring seven goals in 13 appearances.
“It was what I needed – a lot of minutes in a competitive league. What I achieved while I was at Hull has given me a lot of confidence coming back to Liverpool,” said Wilson.
“I always had the belief in my myself but I wanted to show people that I could handle that step up to senior football.
“Maybe there were a few doubts from my first loan (at Crewe in 2015) about whether I could handle it. I was glad that I was able to go to Hull and prove those people wrong.
“Numbers – scoring and assisting – are very important to my game.
“I always base my game around that. Even if you don’t have the best game, if you contribute with a goal or an assist you can still help the team.”
Wilson also added that despite not being around Liverpool for the majority of last season, he still watched the Reds closely to learn from the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
“As a Liverpool fan I was always watching the games even when I wasn’t here last season. I always watch Salah and Mane closely as they are the wingers. I look at what they do and see what I can take to add to my own game,” Wilson said.
“Training with quality players helps you to become a better player. I’ve had a few chats with Mo and he’s a really nice guy. He’s always been really helpful to me.”
As already mentioned, Wilson was superb against Chester getting two goals, and he was pleased with his efforts.
“It was good to be back out there. It was all about getting some minutes into our legs and to score the goals we did was good during a professional performance,” said Wilson.
“I was pleased. Every time I go on the pitch I want to score. The first one fell nicely to me. There were a couple of bodies in front of me but I managed to lift it over them.
“My second goal came from a great ball from Curtis (Jones) and I managed to finish it off.”
