Jürgen Klopp Excited by Liverpool’s New Midfield Options

The arrivals of Naby Keïta and Fabinho has the Liverpool manager looking forward to the coming season.

Having finished in the top four for the second season in a row and made it all the way to the Champions League final, Liverpool look a side very close to re-joining Europe’s elite and will be looking to take the next step this season.

Key to that will be a pair of new midfield arrivals, with Naby Keïta finally joining the club and Fabinho arriving from Monaco to strengthen what many considered the weakest part of last season’s squad. And that has Jürgen Klopp excited.

“Very, very happy to finally have Naby here,” said the Liverpool boss with a smile when asked what the two new big arrivals could mean for the club. “It took a while. Fabinho is also here and that’s perfect for the moment.

“It’s even better they can start from the first day because they have to learn the most, they have to adapt to our style of play. We have nine games until the season starts and we will need them all. They are here, we can start, that’s good.”

Most of Liverpool’s key players, including Keïta and Fabinho, are already back at Anfield despite the World Cup, and Liverpool fans—and the manager—will get their first chance to see the duo in action against Chester on Saturday.

That means we’re just days away from Liverpool’s first pre-season game, and then it will be two a week from July 7th through to August 7th, when the club play their ninth and final pre-season friendly of the summer against Torino.

“We are always ambitious [and] we are still ambitious,” Klopp added. “So we did a few nice things in the last couple of years, but we know as well that we can still improve. So we want to build on the things we’ve achieved so far.

“We know all the good things, we know all the not so good things. Life is always learning from your experiences. I hope we can show that.”
