Jurgen Klopp praises Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah after pre-season victory against Manchester City

Jurgen Klopp was impressed by both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in Liverpool’s 2-1 pre-season victory over Manchester City in New Jersey.

Both managed to get on the scoresheet and change the dynamic of the game when they were introduced off the bench in the second half.

Salah got Liverpool back in the game and Mane scored the winner from a stoppage time penalty.

“The second half pleased me, the first half I was not so pleased with, how you can imagine,” Klopp said, as quoted by The Liverpool Echo.

“Pre-season is a really strange period. It’s so important. On the other hand, you constantly play football you don’t want to see because the legs are heavy and it’s really difficult for the boys.

“In the first half there were obviously a lot of heavy legs – no freshness, nothing.

“You saw the difference when Sadio came on. Now you can prepare direction, you can play balls in behind, which makes life difficult for the opponent.

“With this and then all the other changes after 60 minutes, bringing in fresh legs and obviously a lot of desire to play football, we changed the game.”

Salah, who bagged 44 goals for the Reds in all competitions last season, was playing his first minutes of football for Liverpool since the Champions League final where he sustained a shoulder injury.

“Mo has no problems. We do a lot with the shoulder to strengthen the muscles and all that stuff,” Klopp said.

“I was not concerned about it otherwise he wouldn’t have played. He came in and scored after pretty much 35 seconds. He had a big impact together with Sadio and Dom (Solanke).”
