James Pearce says thrilling forward is on Liverpool’s summer transfer shortlist
James Pearce has confirmed that Liverpool have their eye on Timo Werner but he is unsure of whether or not the club’s interest is firm enough that they will make a move for the German forward this summer.
The Reds are in need of attacking reinforcements with Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi both set to leave the club this summer.
Werner is on the club’s radar and he would certainly suit Klopp’s style of play but James Pearce is unsure if he would be happy with a squad role behind Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

When asked if Werner is on Klopp’s radar, Pearce said: “He’s certainly on his radar but whether that leads to anything it’s too early to say. Liverpool will certainly have to bolster their attacking options in the summer.
“Sturridge will leave when his contract expires and I wouldn’t be surprised if Origi also moves on in search of more regular action.
“Klopp has big hopes for Rhian Brewster but you can’t have a teenage rookie as the only real back-up for Firmino.
“One issue Liverpool have got with recruiting an attacker is that the front line of Firmino, Mane and Salah miss so little football. It would have to be someone content with being a squad player. Whether Werner would be happy with that role, I’m not so sure.”
