Salah backs under-fire Karius
Mohamed Salah has urged Loris Karius to ignore his critics as he endures a nightmare spell between the sticks at Liverpool.
After a tricky start to life at Anfield, Karius grew in stature during the latter half of the 2017/18 season, but all of his good work was effectively undone by a disastrous pair of errors in May’s Champions League Final.
Jurgen Klopp appeared ready to give his compatriot another chance if he impressed in pre-season, but he seemingly judged his confidence to be irreparable and opted to bring in Roma goalkeeper Alisson to replace him as no.1.
Karius, already facing limited minutes, made another error in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat against Dortmund in Charlotte, triggering a fresh torrent of criticism.
It is understood that the German is pondering his future, having been subjected to cruel comments from a section of the Liverpool fanbase.

Team-mate Salah, though, felt compelled to take to social media to defend Karius, pointing out that even the very best players can undergo sharp downturns in form.
“Stay strong Karius,” he wrote. “It has happened to the best of players. Ignore those who hate.”

Following the signing of Alisson, Klopp insisted that Karius remained a key part of his plans as an able deputy.
Klopp is unhappy with the treatment the 25-year-old has faced but may reluctantly sanction Karius’ departure if he resolves to seek pastures new.
