Borussia Dortmund Reportedly Interested In Loan Deal for Divock Origi

The loan-to-buy option is apparently hot with Liverpool players this summer.

Although Liverpool have done fantastically well bringing in players this summer, things have not gone quite as smoothly on the selling front. To date, the biggest outgoing was fourth-choice goalkeeper Danny Ward, sold to Leicester City for £12.5 million.

Liverpool execs were no doubt optimistic about offloading Divock Origi at the start of the summer, reportedly putting a £27 million price tag on the surplus striker. Origi might not be the fit for Liverpool’s system, but he can score goals, and goals cost money. However, with the most European markets approaching the end of their transfer windows, options are running out.

Borussia Dortmund appear interested after failing to add needed firepower to their attack over the summer. According to the less-than-reliable ESPN, Dortmund and Liverpool are currently in talks over the striker, with the German side hoping to reach a compromise.

Said “compromise” is rumored to be a loan-with-an-option-to-buy, basically a similar deal to the ones completed (or nearly so) for Danny Ings and Loris Karius.

If true, this would be Origi’s second loan spell in the Bundesliga after a less-than-stellar campaign with relegation-threatened Wolfsburg. Last year the Belgian striker only managed 6 goals in 31 league appearances, but hopefully another year in the league (surrounded by better players, no doubt) would help him kick on with his career.

Liverpool might have not gotten the value they have sought from outgoings so far, but have shown patience in getting the best deals possible, even if it is deferred until next summer or beyond. Hopefully the sides can find an agreeable solution for Origi as well.
