Brazilians face a race against time to be ready for Spurs clash

Liverpool take on Tottenham at Wembley on September 15 and the Reds’ three Brazilian players will face a race against time to be ready for the match, as reported in the Echo.

Roberto Firmino, Alisson Becker and Fabinho have all been called up to the latest Brazil squad for friendlies with the United States and El Salvador on September 8 and 12, respectively.

The clash with El Salvador is due to kick off at 1:30am BST at the FedExField in Maryland, with the Reds scheduled to take on Mauricio Pochettino’s side at 12:30pm on September 15.

Firmino, Alisson and Fabinho will therefore have only a limited window in which to fly back to the UK and train before taking part in the away match in London. They are likely to have just one training session prior to what could be a crucial match in their campaign.

Tottenham demolished Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Monday night and Liverpool will be wary of their threat. Jamie Carragher referred to them as a “top team” during his analysis on Monday Night Football and questioned why they aren’t being spoken of in the same title-challenging bracket as Liverpool.

“Everybody’s talking about Liverpool potentially challenging Manchester City,” said Carragher. “Why aren’t people talking about this Tottenham team who’ve finished above Liverpool for seven out of eight years?

“This is a top team and the difference between that and becoming a great team is winning at places like this. They got the huge win at Chelsea last season and played really well at Anfield in a 2-2 draw, so maybe the tide is turning in these big games.”

While a late return to training would have minimal impact on Alisson (assuming he remains uninjured), Fabinho will more than likely still miss out while Firmino will be touch and go.

Liverpool may look to fly the Brazilian trio back to the UK early on a private jet, as they’ve done for Firmino and Philippe Coutinho in the past.

It is possible that Liverpool could look to pay for a private jet to have them return earlier and the Reds have taken such measures before for Firmino and Philippe Coutinho. The Reds have also shared travel costs with Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City to bring players home early.

Jurgen Klopp will certainly want Alisson back between the sticks for the Spurs clash, and will hope to have Firmino up top as usual. The striker has yet to score this season but has played a key role as part of the Reds’ three-pronged attack between Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Fabinho has yet to start a game after requiring more time to settle in the squad.
