Gerrard Reportedly Interested in Bringing Solanke to Rangers

According to reports, the former Liverpool captain isn’t finished raiding our reserves.

According to The Daily Mail Rangers boss and former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is interested in bringing Dominic Solanke to Scotland on loan. If true, this would be the third Liverpool fringe player that Gerrard has brought to Glasgow for his first season in change. Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria are already there on loan.

Gerrard is reportedly “confident” of securing the loan. With the reemergence of Daniel Sturridge and the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri, Solanke would start the season further from the first team than he ended it last campaign. However, the striker only managed to score a solitary goal for Liverpool last campaign, despite consistently getting into good positions and creating chances.

Solanke’s underlying metrics, including expected goals, bodes well for him improving in the future. And at just 20 years of age, he has time to build confidence and round out his game. That said, it was difficult last year for the young striker to get a solid run of games, and this year might prove just as (if not more) challenging.

A loan to Rangers might make sense for Solanke, but not necessarily for Liverpool. An injury or two up front (sadly, always a possibility with Sturridge in the squad) might leave Kloppo scrambling for options as he tries to compete on four fronts this year.

Unlike the English Premier League, the Scottish Premier League’s transfer window doesn’t close until the end of the month, so there is still time for this story to develop (or not).
