Klopp had ‘no clue’ what to say to Karius after Kiev woes

Jurgen Klopp has confessed he was incapable of consoling a tearful Loris Karius after his errors in May’s Champions League Final.
A concussed Karius gifted Karim Benzema the opening goal and fumbled Gareth Bale’s long-range strike as the Reds fell to a 3-1 defeat in Kiev.
Klopp insists he was not angry or disappointed with the visibly devastated 25-year-old but says he could offer him no genuine comfort in the immediate aftermath of the game.
“I am a strong supporter of the idea of just shutting up if you don’t have the right words,” he explained. “And other than a few comforting words I did not have the right words. I did not have a clue what you could say.

“Neither was I angry with him nor was I disappointed in him or something else. I only saw his situation, and everyone would love to have the right words. I didn’t have them. And that’s why we left it at it that evening but for a few words.
“By now, I talked to him. Not only about this. The situation is clear and everything’s good.”
Karius’ difficult spell at Anfield is set to come an end this week when he seals a loan move to Besiktas which will likely become permanent.
