Liverpool End Origi Negotiations with Borussia Dortmund

The German club had been interesting in signing Divock Origi this month but were not willing to meet Liverpool’s valuation of the player.

The clock is ticking for Liverpool to finish their outgoing business. The transfer window has been closed in England for weeks but deals have still been happening on the continent and beyond. Now, all the remaining open windows are closing at the end of the month and it’s crunch time to turn all the potential deals into real transfers.

Divock Origi was expected to move on to Borussia Dortmund any day, with the Bundesliga club’s interest made known earlier in the week. Dortmund manager Lucien Favre identified Origi as a promising addition to his side’s attacking play but new reports suggest that The Black and Yellows were put off by Liverpool’s asking price for the player and were then rebuffed in their effort to bring the Belgian striker to Germany on loan.

Origi spent last season on loan at Wolfsburg, scoring just six times in thirty-one appearances. But Liverpool are now looking for a permanent move for Origi and expect to receive £27million from any club who wants him. The Reds feel confident in their valuation of the player given that Wolverhampton attempted to scoop up Origi for £22million this summer. The deal might have happened but for Origi, who apparently wasn’t interested in a move to the West Midlands.

So, Divock Origi has a week to leave Liverpool or Jürgen Klopp can expect to see the big Belgian in training at Melwood until January, at least. Having an extra attacking player in the squad could certainly come in handy if and when injury disaster strikes but Origi staying at the club may have a knock-on consequence for young Dominic Solanke.

Solanke was set to stay with the team this season, despite limited minutes, but if Origi can’t secure a permanent move away from Liverpool, Klopp may sanction a loan move for Solanke if a good deal walks in the door. Tick Tock.
