Napoli ‘drop Mignolet interest’

Napoli have reportedly abandoned their pursuit of Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet after a loan approach was turned down.

The Serie A side are after a new ‘keeper as cover after summer signing Alex Meret broke his arm in pre-season.

According to Football Italia, they were interested in a temporary move for the out-of-favour Mignolet.

However, Liverpool turned down their offer when Carlo Ancelotti’s side requested that the Reds pay part of his wages.

The Belgian has been put up for sale after falling to third in the pecking order behind Alisson and Loris Karius.

He has until the end of the month to seal a move to Europe, but it is understood that his suitors, namely Besiktas and Barcelona, are being put off by Liverpool’s £12million asking price.

The Reds, then, may be forced to loan out the 30-year-old rather than sanction a cut-price deal.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to trim his oversized squad, with Divock Origi, Lazar Markovic and Pedro Chirivella also expected to move in the next few weeks.
