Origi and Markovic Still Expected to Leave Liverpool
The window may be closing but Liverpool are still open to Divock Origi and Lazar Markovic moving on.
There are still expected departures from Liverpool in the next day or two. Transfer business has continued on for continental clubs all through August but those windows are rapidly closing. Loris Karius completed a shock two-year loan move to Besiktas while we were caught packing Simon Mignolet’s bags. Now, it’s the players who have been so oft-pegged for leaving Liverpool that remain at Melwood.
Divock Origi and Lazar Markovic dabbled a bit in Jürgen Klopp’s pre-season but there wasn’t any likely chance of either player magically performing their way into the manager’s plans. Neither player has proved themselves to be up to Liverpool’s level while out of loan.
Origi almost had a run going one time and there was some excitement that the Belgian might turn into something but those fresh hopes floated on a couple of seasons ago. The Liverpool striker spent last season on loan at Wolfsburg, scoring only six goals for the Bundesliga side.
Borussia Dortmund were reported ready to bring Origi back to Germany but turned down an offer to meet Liverpool’s asking price of £27million. Dortmund were hoping for more of a cheaper, loan sort of situation. Something with wages and little candy, couple a mil on top. The deal fell apart.
Origi’s destination appears to be anyone’s guess but Liverpool are confident that the Belgian attacker will be moving on.
As for young Markovic, it looks like another year in Belgium. The Serbian midfielder spent time at Anderlecht last season and the Brussels club are said to be interested in another loan. But, what’s this? Standard Liege might be entering the fray for Markovic, too. It’s all heating up and stuff.
