Chelsea move ahead of Liverpool in race for Federico Chiesa

According to Talksport, Chelsea have jumped ahead of Manchester United and Liverpool in the race to sign Serie A forward Federico Chiesa.

The Fiorentina star, aged 20, scored 6 times in 36 appearances in Serie A this season, helping his club finish eighth in the league. As a result, he has been heavily linked to a number of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool. However, reports claim that Fiorentina are attempting to deter any transfer bids by raising his asking price to €70million.

The Express reports that Chelsea have moved ahead of their Premier League rivals, with Maurizio Sarri confident of acquiring Chiesa’s signature ahead of United and Liverpool, as well as AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Sarri’s former club Napoli.

Fiorentina’s joint-owner Diego Della Valle claimed in the summer that Chiesa has no reason to leave for another club.

“I don’t know anything, I can talk as a fan, but the President is my brother Andrea,” said Della Valle.

“The lad is looking great, plus he has the perfect father. He’s happy at Fiorentina. Where else should he go?”

Liverpool have been linked to a number of top players in recent weeks as their European star continues to burn brightly after last season’s fantastic run in the Champions League.

The Reds take on Paris Saint-Germain tomorrow night in what is sure to be a fierce encounter at Anfield.
