Dublin and Molby believe defence is key to title challenge
Former Norwich and Leicester player Dion Dublin believes Liverpool have built a strong core defence capable of helping them win the Premier League title.
The Reds sit top of the league after the opening four games, notching wins against West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Leicester.
Key to their success so far has been an improved defensive setup, with the centre-back partnership of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez proving extremely effective so far. And aside from one blunder, new goalkeeper Alisson, who arrived from Roma in July, has looked solid between the sticks.
Dublin, who now presents Homes Under The Hammer, has highlighted the necessity for any title-winning team to have a great back line.
“If you look at the Premier League, five teams have won it,” Dublin said, as quoted in the Express.
“You can name the goalkeeper and two centre-halves. That’s what Liverpool have tried to do.
“The two centre-halves in Gomez and Van Dijk are playing very well.
“And Alisson is a good keeper who is getting better as well.”

Alisson’s only conceded goal came from a moment of over-confidence in his own area that led to him getting caught in possession. Former Liverpool man Jan Molby, writing in his Echo column, sent Alisson a warning.
“Goalkeepers can make mistakes and it gets blown out of all proportion when they do.
“Alisson has made his mistake now and as Klopp said, he is glad that it has happened – it’s like the monkey off his back and we just have to hope now he can learn from it.
“Of course, it’s nice when you’ve got a good goalkeeper who can take part and play and has got good feet but most importantly you want somebody between the sticks who is good with their hands.
“So let’s hope he finds the balance of being a good goalkeeper and being there when he’s needed to show that he can play as well.”
Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff.
