Fabinho believes Kiev defeat will make Liverpool stronger

Liverpool new boy Fabinho believes the Reds will be stronger in the Champions League this season after suffering heartbreak in Kiev in May.

Real Madrid claimed victory in the competition after mistakes from concussed Loris Karius gifted Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale two freak goals. Bale also scored a spectacular overhead kick after Sadio Mane pulled one back for Liverpool.

Fabinho arrived from Monaco for £40million shortly after the final defeat but has yet to start for Liverpool in the Premier League. He did, however, make the bench against Tottenham and will hope to at least do the same during the week, though he is unlikely to dislodge James Milner or Gini Wijnaldum, who have both started the season as though they have a point to prove.

He spoke recently to Yahoo Sport UK about his perspective on the Champions League final.

“I watched that game [the final] already knowing I would be coming to Liverpool so I was supporting the team a lot and really gutted that they couldn’t get to win it.

“Although it seems like a bad experience, I’m sure that getting to the getting to the final and losing gave the team a lot of strength and we will come back stronger. I would like to play Monaco at some stage.”

Liverpool start this season’s Champions League campaign tomorrow night against Paris-Saint Germain at Anfield, and the Reds will be hoping for another solid performance to build on their unbeaten league run so far.
