Klopp hails former target Mbappe

Jurgen Klopp has confessed his ‘love’ for PSG’s teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe, a player he reportedly tried to sign last year.

Klopp has been preparing his Liverpool defence for the threat posed by one of the most exciting youngsters in football history, who is set to start alongside Edinson Cavani and Neymar in the PSG attack at Anfield on Tuesday evening.

Mbappe joined the Parisians in the summer of 2017 following an outstanding breakthrough season at Monaco.

They managed to fend off competition from a host of high-profile suitors, among whom were Liverpool, according to L’Equipe.

Klopp supposedly tried his very best to convince Mbappe to join the Reds, with the club offering him to make their joint highest-paid player.

While the Frenchman is said to have been impressed by Klopp’s pitch, Liverpool were unable to rival the incredible bid of £166million lodged by PSG.

Speaking to RMC ahead of Tuesday’s night hotly-anticipated game, Klopp could not contain his admiration for the 19-year-old.

“I love him, to be honest, he’s a fantastic player, a very good boy and what a player, what a player,” he said.

“I think that all European football has known him since he was 16-17 when he was playing with the young team from Monaco.

“He’s been playing at a very high level for his young age, and he’s showing all the time that he’s a very well educated young player and he knows what he’s doing.”
