Looking to extend their win streak to seven, Liverpool hosted Mark Hughes’ Southampton ahead of a duo of matches against Chelsea. Jürgen Klopp’s side - featuring Xherdan Shaqiri in his first ever competitive start for Liverpool - powered out to a 3-0 lead in the first half. Xherdan Shaqiri and Virgil van Dijk came off, the latter possibly with a rib injury, but Southampton failed to muster any real threat, and that’s how the scoreline stayed.
