Summer signing Fabinho was a bargain, transfer data reveals

Liverpool signed Brazilian midfielder Fabinho for around £30million less than his actual value, according to new transfer data.

The CIES Football Observatory uses a ‘powerful econometric approach’ to determine the transfer value of players.

Liverpool signed Fabinho from Monaco in the early part of the transfer window for an initial £40million, but the observatory label him a £70million (€78.2million) player in their latest update.

Fabinho has yet to feature for Jurgen Klopp’s side as he is eased into the fold but could get his first minutes in the coming weeks.

Alisson Becker’s £65million price tag also seems favourable, with the site attributing him a worth of just under £75million.

The same can be said for Naby Keita, who the Reds agreed to sign in the summer of 2017. The eventual fee of £52.75million was, according to the observatory, nearly £15million less than his full value.

The Reds also activated Xherdan Shaqiri’s modest £13million release clause, adding the Swiss international to their ranks for close to half his supposed worth.

Liverpool’s business was also impressive in terms of outgoings. Danny Ward, for example, moved to Leicester for £12million when his value has been calculated at just £4.9million.
