Jan Molby wants Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri to take their opportunity when it presents

With a number of Liverpool stars returning to Melwood from the international break injured, the opportunity for some of the squad players such as Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri will present itself in the coming weeks.

Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita were the four that picked up injuries on international duty, meaning the likes of Lallana and Shaqiri will have to step up in the upcoming games.

Liverpool take on Huddersfield Town this weekend in the Premier League, and Jan Molby believes this particular fixture could be the perfect time for squad players such as Lallana and Shaqiri to show their worth.

“The next few weeks should represent a wonderful opportunity for Xherdan Shaqiri and Adam Lallana at Liverpool,” Molby said, as quoted by the Daily Star.

“They’ll have been waiting for a chance to show Jurgen Klopp they can step up, and the Reds’ injury list means this is the time to prove they can do it.

“Lallana at his best is an excellent player. But the way the Liverpool midfield played last season means it would be unfair to say we missed anybody in that position.

“Shaqiri can play in a central role, and Lallana would very much be an option also.

“Having played in Klopp’s teams before, he would already have a fairly good idea of what was required.

“Whether he’s fit enough, we’ll soon find out. But if Liverpool can get a few games out of him in the coming weeks, it would be a bonus.

“Shaqiri has done well so far. Nobody has doubted his quality, it was more whether he could put it all together with the work-rate required to play at Liverpool.

“But so far, so good. He takes responsibility on the ball, whether that’s in open play or at set-pieces.”
