Shaqiri Talks About Adjusting to Life at Anfield

Everyone’s favourite Swiss international weighs in on his time at Liverpool so far.

Xherdan Shaqiri has only started two games for Liverpool since joining the team this summer from Stoke City for £13 million, but he’s already built a loyal and dedicated fan base around him. However, that doesn’t mean his transition to life at Anfield has been particularly easy. The winger spoke with Swiss newspaper Aargauer Zeitung this weekend about his new club, the manager, and the fact that he’s not really getting all that much playing time.

His main insistence was that Klopp doesn’t really owe him anything, including playing time.

”[Klopp] doesn’t have to keep me happy,” Shaqiri said about not having seen that much playing time so far this season. “The process has worked well for me so far. Sure, every professional wants to play. I do too, but there are still a lot of games to come.

“On top of that, you just need to look and acknowledge what has been done at Liverpool recently. A lot of people did a good job.”

“That’s why everything hasn’t been turned upside down overnight. What is happening is exactly what I expected. I decided to move to Liverpool fully aware that I would have a harder time in a club of this standing than, for example, other clubs that tried to help me.”

With the team juggling several competitions at once this season, it seems natural that Shaqiri will start seeing more playing time in the coming months.
