Liverpool fans happy to avoid de Ligt disaster

Matthijs de Ligt has endured an awful 2019/20 season and his performance for Holland against Northern Ireland prompted a gleeful response from Liverpool fans.
The Dutchman joined Juventus in the summer for a massive fee after being linked with Liverpool and, at the time, many fans thought Jurgen Klopp had made a huge mistake.
While there is plenty of time for the 19-year-old to grow, de Ligt has been very poor this season and not the beacon of shining light that many had expected him to be.
How Liverpool fans reacted on social media:
De Ligt is proving me wrong. I actually wanted him in my club. pic.twitter.com/5AHrx3nOHA

Joel Matip has been the Reds’ best defender this season so far, outperforming Virgil van Dijk and his injury is unfortunate as he was really beginning to hit his stride.
Dejan Lovren played well against Leicester City at the weekend but is still not at the level required of a centre back starting for a side hoping to win the Champions League and Premier League.
De Ligt might have a bright future ahead of him but Klopp’s decision not to break the bank to sign him seems to have been vindicated so far.
