Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been given extra time to respond to alleged betting infringements.

The FA charged the former Chelsea man over claims that he infringed upon rules against betting and gambling on football.

Sturridge responded to the charges, saying he is not guilty. According to the Liverpool Echo, a club spokesperson said: “Daniel has given his full and unequivocal cooperation throughout this process and has assured the club he will continue to do so.

“Daniel has also stated categorically that he has never gambled on football. As with any issue of this nature, we will allow the process to be concluded in its entirety before making any further comment.”

The Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe reports that the FA have given Daniel Sturridge more time to respond to the charges. The deadline for his written response to the charges has been extended to February.

The charges are in relation to the loan move that he completed in January 2019, with an investigation being launched into a large bet placed on Sturridge completing a temporary move to Inter Milan.

If the forward is found guilty of breaking FA rules on betting, he could face a large fine or lengthy suspension.
