Bellamy: Mourinho Should Bench Pogba For Anfield

The former Liverpool player thinks the Manchester United star would not help his team on Sunday.

With Champions League action officially on hiatus until February, Liverpool turn their full attention back to the Premier League. And what an attention grabber it is: Manchester United coming to Anfield with Liverpool top of the pile.

Under any other circumstances, maintaining the top spot in the league or heaping more misery on Jose Mourinho and/or United would be motivation enough. But both? Oh boy, the prospect is downright tasty. (Equally, there will be Mancs licking their chops to put a dent in our near-perfect season).

Regardless, there’s a game to play, and eleven players each to field. And, according to former Liverpool player and current Sky Sports pundit Craig Bellamy, United manager Jose Mourinho should not start French international Paul Pogba on the weekend.

“Pogba was poor again tonight,” Bellers explained, “Mourinho isn’t getting the best out of Pogba, that’s clear.

“There is a lack of interest from Pogba. His performance in Valencia was concerning. I’m not sure if he is as good as a lot of people make out.

“There’s a massive game on Sunday, Liverpool versus Manchester United is the biggest game in the Premier League between the teams who have won the most trophies, an incredible fixture.

“If you’re Mourinho, after Pogba’s performance today, it will be very difficult to say he has to play, he has to leave him out again.”

Bellamy might not have been a world-class player, but that is some world class trolling. I’m sorry, I meant “punditry.”

While Pogba’s up and down form is probably concerning from a United perspective, there’s no doubt about his talent and his ability to contribute in a big game. Or, to occasionally pull off the spectacular handball whilst dabbing.

However, I think we can all agree on one thing: hoping that if Pogba finds his way into the United starting XI he has an absolute howler.
