Georginio Wijnaldum praises Alisson Becker after heroic Napoli display

Georginio Wijnadum hailed Alisson Becker for his heroic role in getting Liverpool into the Round of 16 of this season’s Champions League.

The Times‘ Paul Joyce produced a very telling statistic following Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Napoli and ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester United on Sunday.

Since signing for Liverpool, Alisson has conceded just six goals, one fewer than he conceded during the aggregate semi-final tie against his new side while in goal for AS Roma last season.

Following the Brazil no.1’s heroic display at Anfield on Tuesday, Wijnaldum praised his new teammate, saying he gives Liverpool confidence.

“He already gave us confidence he is a good goalkeeper,” Wijnaldum said.

“It is always difficult to stop balls; for example the one against Everton [from Andre Gomes], if that one had gone in no-one would have blamed him but he saved it. Against Napoli also it was difficult to stop that ball but he managed to stop it and we are happy so of course, it gives confidence.”
