Rumour Mongering: AC Milan Consider Divock Origi Transfer Bid

Origi is said to be on Milan’s shortlist with the Serie A giants desperate for January reinforcements.

Even if Divock Origi’s late goal against Everton to kick off December doesn’t turn out to be the thing that revives his Liverpool career, the 23-year-old Belgian could have the chance to shine with a big club in the second half of the season.

At least if you believe the rumours out of Italy today, which have AC Milan desperate for attacking reinforcements in January and sniffing around Origi along with Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford and Sampdoria’s Fabio Quagliarella.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, that’s the shortlist—and the word that comes to mind is grab-bag, with Quagliarella 35 years old, Origi being somewhere down the depth chart, and Rashford having played 18 games for United this season.

Their fees would be similarly diverse, one imagines, from a pittance for the Sampdoria vet to a high but manageable fee for Origi—Liverpool wanted around £25M for him back in the summer—to a likely exorbitant one for Rashford.

All of which makes it a touch difficult to take the rumour seriously. Still, it’s one that’s out there now, and if Milan really are interested—and willing to pay Liverpool’s asking price—it could certainly make for an appealing option for Origi.

The player has always held out hope of reviving his career at Anfield, and a late goal against Everton certainly won’t hurt those hopes any, but there would be worse options at this point than a chance to play a major role for Milan.

Assuming, of course, there’s anything to it. Which, in all likelihood given the source and the rather odd collection of names mentioned alongside Origi, there probably isn’t.
