Pep Guardiola says Liverpool are ready for Premier League title challenge

Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola believes that Liverpool will be relishing the challenge to write the next chapter in their history by doing their utmost to win the Premier League title for the first time ever.

Last weekend was a pivotal one in the makeup of the title race as Liverpool went top of the table by beating Bournemouth 4-0 at the Vitality Stadium.

Later that day, Manchester City dropped three points at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea ended the champions’ unbeaten start to the season and ensured Liverpool remained top of the league.

When questioned about the desire Liverpool have to win the Premier League, Guardiola said: “I don’t know. Liverpool and United are the two biggest clubs in England and 28 years without winning the league is many, many years.

“I would say the position [they are in], with the manager and the players they have, they will be up for the challenge to write their own history.

“For them it’s so important, but more than that they are a top side, a top team and for the last eight or nine years they are playing really well, so competitive and losing few points.

“They are going to drop very few points, so that’s why we have to be there close to them to catch-up.”
