Virgil van Dijk Praises Salah and Liverpool
The decisive defender praises the decisive attacker.
It’s hard to find many signings in Liverpool’s history as effective at improving the side as Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. And it appears the feeling is positive between them.
“[Salah]’s scoring goals”, Van Dijk told The Mirror. “He’s smiling. He can’t smile every second of the day but I know he’s enjoying it.
“So we don’t need to see any negative things about that, we just need to focus on the good things he does.
“He scored a hat trick last at Bournemouth and scored again, an important one against Napoli so he’s been doing very well.
“People can say he’s not scoring as many goals as last year, but that’s always from outside the club.
“His level is very high and he showed that against a good defender like Kalidou Koulibaly.
“It’s difficult to play against Mo. People underestimate how strong he is and a very important player, a great guy and he is deadly in the box.”
Meanwhile, Van Dijk was also reassuring about Liverpool’s current defensive issues, believing that the side have stronger options than many realise.
“Joe and Joel are injured but we have been playing with Dejan Lovren as well a lot this season and I don’t think we want to change anything, just do the things that we have done almost all season” says the defender.
“It’s going to be a tough game. Manchester United are a good team and they have good players up front.
“But we are a very good team all over and we will be ready. I’m going to focus on that and although it’s always tough against them we will be ready on Sunday.
“We all want to win the league at Liverpool, we want to win as much as possible, but it’s not easy. We need to win our games. That’s what we will try to do.”
The defensive injuries are frustrating because it otherwise feels like Liverpool are in a really positive moment right now. Results are good and the performances are there to back it up. If the good work can continue then Liverpool could be in a really strong position after this Christmas period.
