Xherdan Shaqiri expected to return to Liverpool starting XI to face Everton

Liverpool midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri is expected to return to Liverpool’s starting XI to face Everton in the 232nd Merseyside Derby on Sunday.

The backlash from the drab 2-1 defeat in Paris on Wednesday has been centred around the lack of creativity in Liverpool’s midfield as a trio of James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson failed to break down PSG.

On social media, calls have been made for one of Naby Keita or Xherdan Shaqiri to start against the Toffees and Liverpool Echo reporter James Pearce says that it’s expected that the latter will play against Everton from the start.

With Shaqiri expected to start, reporters asked Klopp at his press conference if he thinks the former Stoke City man will relish the opportunity to start in a Merseyside Derby.

The manager replied: “That’s something you do always, when the new boys are in they are so much better than all the others.

“I don’t get the word ‘relish’ actually, but yes I think he will enjoy it a lot and he will be ready for it as well. We have to see how we play and which line up we will choose.”
