Liverpool Know There Is Hard Work Left to Do No Matter City Result

Win, lose, or draw against Manchester City and the Reds will be title favourites, but that doesn’t mean the job is close to done.

It’s only January 3rd, but tonight Liverpool take on Manchester City in a game that could all but decide the Premier League. If Liverpool win, they will be ten points up on City and nine points ahead of Tottenham.

There would still, of course, be work to do, but such a lead at this stage would be massive. Jürgen Klopp, though, says he and his players don’t have any interest in such talk—or in the hype building up around the match.

“We don’t feel it,” the Liverpool manager told TalkSport today. “We know that we are in a good moment, but it’s not important. In no sport in the world do you celebrate before you are past the finish line.

“We are in a good moment, we know that. Before the season started, the target was to qualify for the Champions League. We are not part of the hype. Sometimes the boys are the reason for it, but we are not part of it.”

You wouldn’t, of course, expect a manager to say anything different. Yet Klopp and the players will be well aware that, as of today, they are favourites to win Liverpool’s first title of the Premier League era.

And they will know, too, the gap a win would open up would be difficult for City or Spurs to overcome—it would require a perfect second half of the season for the chasers and also a massive drop in form by the Reds.

They will not be unaware of that—no matter what they say. Yet this is a group that has been together for multiple season with Klopp. It is a group that will know how much hard work is left to do no matter what happens tonight.

“That’s how the world is,” Klopp added. “There are the few who have to work for the dream and the few who only have to dream. We are, for sure, the ones who have to work for it.”
