Rangers to Seek Permanent Deal for Ryan Kent

The Liverpool loanee has settled well at Rangers and they would like to keep him beyond the current season.

Ryan Kent may have found himself a long-term loan at Rangers, with the on-loan Liverpool attacker impressing for Steven Gerrard’s title challengers and the club openly talking about their desire to keep the player on for the 2019-20 season.

“We would certainly like to pursue what we do next with Ryan but that is a conversation we have to have with Liverpool Football Club,” said director of football Mark Allen. “We have a very good relationship with Liverpool and I think it is dialogue that will continue.

“I think they would be happy, I don’t want to speak for Liverpool, but I am sure they would be happy with the way that Ryan is settled and performing and maybe would see us a good vehicle for their players to give them much needed experience.”

In addition to having brought Kent in on loan, Rangers signed Ovie Ejaria for the season, a loan that looked to be going well until, rather suddenly, it wasn’t. They’ve also signed Jordan Rossiter and Jon Flanagan permanently from the Reds in recent seasons.

Kent, though, looks the most successful, with the 22-year-old having made 24 appearances for Rangers this year, scoring three goals and three assists playing mostly as a left winger. He has also previously spoken about a desire to extend his stay.

“It is very obvious to everyone that Ryan is playing well,” Allen added “That means he is settled in my opinion and there are a lot of things that go into that so that players are settled in their environment.

“Maybe Ryan himself is feeling that this is good for him too. It is a collective, there is no single thing that decides do you keep him or release him. It is a combination.”
