Jordan Henderson on Bayern Draw: “It’s Still Alive”

Some positive notes on a mixed night for Liverpool.

There are positives and negatives tonight for Liverpool after the 0-0 draw at home to Bayern. The reds created enough chances to win the game, but were unable to finish them, while Bayern did themselves have bright spots throughout the 90 minutes.

Jordan Henderson sees things in a decent light.

“We’re disappointed not to score”, Henderson told BT Sport, as reported by BBC Sport. “But we kept a clean sheet and defended well. We had enough chances, especially in the first half.

”It’s not the worst result in the world. The performance level was good but we lacked that bit in the final third.

”They’re a good team, they’re going to keep the ball. At times we found it frustrating. We were a bit unlucky in front of goal.

”It’s still alive. We’ve got games before the second leg. We’ve got to be confident still. It’ll be difficult but we have experience in the Champions League. We can go there and hurt them.”

Andy Robertson struck much the same tone, admitting that Liverpool were facing an “experienced team”, elaborating to say that Bayern have “been here and done it for five or six years. We’ve kept a clean sheet, could’ve scored a couple of goals but the tie is well and truly alive. If we score there it’s crucial.

”Fabinho was different class. Me and Fab have been working together in training, I thought he did a great job for us.”

It’s hard to disagree with what either player is saying. This leg was not a hugely eventful 90 minutes, and Liverpool can look back with mixed feelings, but the real work will be done in a couple of weeks. It’s all to play for and Liverpool are very much capable of delivering in Munich.

Just so long as they manage to perform at Old Trafford first.
