Real Madrid set their sights on Jurgen Klopp as next manager

Jurgen Klopp is now Real Madrid’s number one managerial target, according to The Independent.

Klopp tops a shortlist of names that includes Max Allegri and Mauricio Pochettino. The Spanish giants are currently enduring their worst season in a decade and manager Santiago Solari is under enormous pressure, especially in the wake of the club’s Champions League humiliation at the hands of Ajax this week.

However, it’s understood that Madrid will wait until the summer before appointing a new head coach, with the priority being someone who can breathe fresh life and excitement into the team.

Sacked Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is also in the running, though club executives at Real believe his time as a top manager is now over.

Klopp, therefore, is the number one choice for a club desperate to reinvigorate itself. Madrid are eager to bring him on board after seeing how he has progressed Liverpool in recent seasons.

The Reds boss has, however, rejected Madrid previously. It’s also incredibly unlikely that the Liverpool owners would allow Klopp to leave, and the manager himself has consistently reiterated that Anfield is “home” to him.

What Madrid do in the coming months remains to be seen, but the Liverpool hierarchy will keep a watchful eye on their movements between now and summer 2019.
