Liverpool submit formal enquiry for prolific Lille striker Nicolas Pepe

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Lille striker Nicolas Pepe, according to the Mirror.

Jurgen Klopp is set to lose Daniel Sturridge in the summer, with Divock Origi also heavily linked with a move away from Anfield, so the striking department will be stretched thin as things stand.

And with that in mind, it appears the German manager has identified Pepe as a potential addition to the Reds squad as competition for Roberto Firmino up top.

According to reports, Liverpool have even submitted a formal enquiry for the 23-year-old as they look to steal a march on Manchester United, Arsenal and Everton for the striker’s signature.

Pepe has bagged 19 goals and 11 assists in 32 appearances this season, attracting the attention of a host of top European clubs – in fact, he’s second in the Ligue 1 goalscoring charts, just behind Kylian Mbappe

Lille president Gerard Lopez admitted that the forward is likely to leave at the end of the season.

“Four or five players will be leaving this summer,” he said. “All clubs are forced to balance their accounts except perhaps one. I would say yes, it is sure he [Pepe] will leave.

“He enters a price range that can no longer be paid. There is a career choice to make for him, I think he will have the choice.”
