Mane: “We deserved the win”

Sadio Mane was pleased with his contribution in last night’s comprehensive win over Porto at the Estadio do Dragao.

The Reds had been up against the ropes for the opening portion of the game before Mane stabbed past the keeper from a Mohamed Salah pass.

The Senegalese international had appears to be offside, but a VAR decision correctly ruled that the goal should stand.

And Liverpool’s No.10 believed that his side ultimately deserved to win the match.

“I was thinking it was offside, to be honest,” Mane said.

“I told the boys to keep going and they said, ‘No, wait.’ I was surprised. It was an important goal but the more important thing was to qualify for the semis and we did it – it’s great.

“The beginning was tough. I think the team spirit was great; we never gave up, we tried to push hard as a team. We created many chances and scored many goals, so I think we deserved the win.”
