Paris Saint-Germain Reportedly Have Not Approached Leipzig for Diomande
Liverpool continue to target RB Leipzig and Cote d’Ivoire winger Yan Diomande, with the talented 19-year-old the top wing target as the Reds seek to do the seemingly impossible and replace departed Premier League legend Mohamed Salah ahead of the start of the 2026-27 campaign.
However, they aren’t the only club interested, with Paris Saint-Germain regularly linked with Diomande and conflicting reports regarding where exactly things stand in the race. Most, though, think Liverpool are favourites and the biggest potential stumbling block is agreeing a fee with Leipzig.
Today we might have at least a hint of clarity on the PSG front, with French football expert Fabrice Hawkins saying while the Parisian sportswashers are interested in Diomande, they haven’t made a formal approach yet and would only consider one if the player signalled they were his first choice.
If things were to change PSG would move quickly to try to secure his services, but for the time being they’re watching and waiting—and, it seems fair to infer, they are not Diomande’s top choice. Whether that means Liverpool is or if Diomande is happy to join either is a different question.
It’s Liverpool, though, who have made a formal approach and a first bid of around €100M. And it’s Liverpool who are soon expected to make another. They would not have done so without encouragement from Diomande’s camp that he would join if they can reach an agreement with Leipzig.
While nothing is certain in the land of transfers until the deal is signed and the player is leaning, all of that is clearly positive from Liverpool’s point of view—as is news that PSG so far are content to watch, to wait, and to monitor rather than actively moving to try to close a deal for Diomande.
