Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Looking For Depay Day
Sure, let’s go with it and that atrocious pun (I’m not sorry).
It’s been a slow news day with very little Premier League action happening this weekend and Liverpool taking care of their business early on Friday night, but here we are. Talking about a winger that we tried to get four years ago but he snubbed us for Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United.
Yup, that means Memphis Depay is potentially back on the market and The Mirror (so take it with a grain of salt) alleges that Liverpool have been keeping their eye on him ever since he left that doomed United side. Depay himself is currently over in Ligue 1 playing for Lyon.
According to The Mirror, Depay is rated at £50 million and looking to hop over to another prestige league. Liverpool are watching him should the unthinkable happen with Sadio Mane forcing a move to Real Madrid, and naturally they’d rather have a replacement lined up rather than be caught out without a chance of shoring up that important role.
Of course, this is all speculation, especially because Liverpool have absolutely no intention whatsoever to let Mane leave, not to mention for someone they moved on from four years ago. While bringing another Dutch player in to team up with Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum sounds good on paper, this deal for Depay probably isn’t something to bank on.
At 25 years old and with 12 goals for club and country under his belt this year, it remains to be seen if he’s still the same wonderkid we woefully missed out on in 2015.
