Rumour Mongering: West Ham Lead Race to Sign Nathaniel Clyne
West Ham have the edge on Bournemouth according to a handful of rumours this week.
It would be easy to forget that Nathaniel Clyne is still on Liverpool’s books given the once integral right back’s struggles with injury, form, and to secure playing time before the club sent him out on loan to Bournemouth in January.
He still is, though, and a permanent home will have to be found for the still just 28-year-old defender come summer. With that in mind, multiple reports this week claim there appears to be one real favourite to sign him: West Ham.
The rumour as it currently stands is that Bournemouth want to make the loan permanent, but West Ham are also interested—and Clyne’s representatives have perhaps given them encouragement that he would prefer to join them.
Meanwhile, for Liverpool’s part, Goal’s Neil Jones says all the Reds especially care about is having one of the interested clubs pay £15M for Clyne. Do that, and he’s all theirs, at least assuming Clyne then agrees to the move.
Which, if the less reliable chatter proves correct, he’s more likely to do if it’s West Ham stumping up £15M for the player whose current Liverpool deal will have one more year to run on it after the current season ends.
