Sterling on Liverpool winning the title: “I don’t think anybody wants that”

Raheem Sterling threw a jibe at Liverpool during an acceptance interview at the BT Sports Industry Awards last night.

The former Red, who has been in superb form for Manchester City this season, was being honoured for his fight against racism in football during the event.

However, the attacker used part of his time on stage to send a thinly-veiled message about Liverpool’s title push.

“It is exciting, to be fair. Especially before the game yesterday [against Manchester United],” Sterling said.

“Any little slip and you’ve got the Liverpool guys who could go top [of the table]. You don’t want that.

“I don’t want that. I don’t think anybody wants that. So you try to do your best to make sure you win the game.

“But it is enjoyable. This is what I became a professional football player for – it’s for these moments.

“Win or lose [the title], you’re still going to look back on it and just be grateful for these unbelievable moments.”
