Real Madrid president reveals envy towards Liverpool

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has revealed his jealousy of Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s side prepare to contest the Champions League final on Saturday.

The La Liga giants won the final last season, beating Liverpool on the night, but have endured a torrid time since then, both domestically and in Europe.

Looking ahead to this year’s final, Perez has recalled a group stage match in 2014 between Los Blancos and the Reds, during which the Anfield side were beaten 3-0.

“People were applauding in Anfield when we beat them 0-3,” Perez said.

“I envy that kind of atmosphere and that which we have the best.

“There are journalists who only go to Madrid in the satisfaction of seeing us lose.”

The Madrid president added: “I do not think that the problems of Madrid this season have been because we didn’t have a suitable Cristiano replacement.

“Zidane left because he was exhausted. Which happened to every player this season except Benzema.”
