Salah and Firmino Officially Ruled Out of Barcelona Second Leg
Liverpool will be without two-thirds of their vaunted attack when they face Barca on Tuesday.
If Liverpool are to overcome their three goal, no away goal deficit against Barcelona on Tuesday, Mohamed Salah will not have a part to play in it after the star attacker was ruled medically not fit to face the La Liga side.
Though the player is said to feel well and to want to play, he isn’t well enough to have been cleared to. He will also be joined on the sidelines by Roberto Firmino, whose groin issue will keep him out for a second game now.
“Both are not available for tomorrow,” Klopp revealed at his pre-match press conference. “It’s a concussion, so he would not be allowed to play. That’s it, that’s all. He feels okay, but not good enough from a medical point of view.”
Despite the situation, down three goals and without Salah and Firmino, Klopp insists his side only know how to do one thing—try to win football games—and that there will be no going through the motions on Tuesday.
For now, though, most on the outside at least won’t be expecting much out of whatever cobbled-together attack Klopp manages to line up. By kickoff, though, things could just maybe feel a whole lot different.
Not because of Liverpool or Barcelona but because of Leicester and Manchester City, who play Monday. If Leicester can get a result, Liverpool’s fans and players would certainly head into Tuesday feeling anything was possible.
