Jürgen Klopp Wants Liverpool to Use Last Two Games to “Celebrate”

Whatever happens, Liverpool have played an exceptional season and Klopp wants to celebrate that.

Liverpool probably won’t win the Premier League this season. They probably won’t win the Champions League, either. Given how well they’ve played and how far they’ve gone in both, that feels a touch unfair, perhaps even a little bit cruel.

Still, for all that this Liverpool side feels like they deserve to get more than they are likely to—and to be remembered for it—there is still a great deal worth celebrating in their final two homes games. That was Jürgen Klopp’s message today.

“We will try to win the game,” Klopp began, touching on the heavy challenge his side faces trying to overcome a three goal deficit against Barcelona. “If the result we have gives us an opportunity to go to the next round, I think we should try.

“Until then, we just have to try to win the game and that’s what we will do together with our supporters. It was a long season, and there’s at least a chance to make it longer, but if not then these are the last two home games of an incredible season.”

It’s been a very, very good season, and there’s no reason this group can’t keep going—next season and beyond. That’s worth celebrating, even if it doesn’t feel fair for this group to have done so well and potentially be getting nothing for it.

Liverpool know that, whatever happens, they have at least two more games to play. And both are at Anfield. It’s a chance at least to end it on their terms—both the players and supporters—doing what they’ve done so often and so well already.

“I think we should celebrate with a good performance on the pitch and with a very, very good performance in the stands,” Klopp added. “That would be really nice.”
