Xherdan Shaqiri could be sold to make way for Villarreal winger

The Mirror report that Xherdan Shaqiri could be sold this summer to make room for Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze at Anfield.

Shaqiri started well at Liverpool this season but has dropped down the pecking order among Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options.

Signed for £13million from Stoke, the recruiting of the Swiss international appeared to be decent business.

However, reports are now circulating that the attacker could be moved on in favour of Chukwueze.

Liverpool would stand to recoup their losses on Shaqiri, with the 27-year-old clearly still a viable option for most Premier League clubs.

20-year-old Chukwueze could be an intriguing replacement, too, with the fast-paced Nigerian still having plenty of time to develop.

Villarreal will be desperate to keep him this summer given that he’s had a good breakthrough season, but a bid from Liverpool could be too much to turn down for the player and club.
