Burley: “Griezmann would be a fantastic addition to Liverpool”

ESPN pundit Craig Burley believes Liverpool should look to sign Antoine Griezmann this summer if they want to close the gap with Manchester City.

The Frenchman appears to be on the verge of a big-money move to Barcelona from Atletico Madrid, where he has spent the last five years of his career.

But Burley thinks Jurgen Klopp should throw his hat in the ring and invite Griezmann to join the European Champions at Anfield.

“I still think that Antoine Griezmann would be a fantastic addition to Liverpool,” Burley said, as quoted by the Daily Star.

“Bearing in mind how well they did last year and how close they came to Manchester City.

“The quality that he would bring and to have somebody that can rotate with Firmino in that front three would be a fantastic addition.

“I don’t know if that is something that could be done but I think that if they are going to bridge that gap to Manchester City then that is the kind of player that they need to be signing.”

Julien Laurens, European football expert, was inclined to agree with Burley, suggesting that Griezmann’s switch to the Nou Camp isn’t as certain as it once appeared.

“I agree. It’s a fascinating one really when we think about where we were last summer with Griezmann and he could have gone certainly then to Barcelona but decided in the end to stay at Atletico,” Laurens said.

“It was certain that it could happen with Barcelona and now here we are where it is not so certain any more.

“It is certainly an interesting one and as much as I think that he would fit in well with Liverpool, I think in many ways he would with Paris Saint-Germain too.”
