Former Red backs Lovren to leave Liverpool this summer

Liverpool legend John Barnes believes the Reds should allow Dejan Lovren to leave this summer as he’s likely to be a fringe player at Anfield this coming season if he stays.
The Croatian centre-back has been linked with a move to AC Milan, with Jurgen Klopp willing to sanction the move if Liverpool’s £25million asking price is met.
And Barnes thinks a switch to Serie A for Lovren would be in everyone’s best interest this summer.

“With Joe Gomez coming back, if Lovren feels that he’s not going to be playing any more and he wants to play first-team football, fine,” Barnes said.
“I quite like him at Liverpool because of course, if players get injured, he can step in and do a good job.
“But players sometimes think to themselves that they want to play first-team football so therefore if he leaves, I’ll have every respect for him, rather than him just staying at Liverpool in the comfort zone.
“Maybe it is time for him to move on if that’s what he decides.”
Lovren made just 13 Premier League appearances throughout the past season as he fell behind Joe Gomez and then Joel Matip in the pecking order to partner Virgil van Dijk.
His current £100,000-per-week contract runs until 2021.
