Champions League hero set for new long-term Liverpool deal

Liverpool are set to award Divock Origi with a new long-term contract after the striker played a key role in their Champions League final victory on Saturday, according to the Mirror.

The Belgian came off the bench against Tottenham to score a well-taken goal that secured the win for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

His heroics in Madrid followed on the back of a tie-winning brace against Barcelona in the semi-finals, which sent Liverpool through to the titanic clash against Spurs this weekend past.

And the Reds hierarchy will reward Origi with a new deal this summer, with his manager eager to keep him at the club long-term.

Klopp has repeatedly stated how impressed he’s been with the 24-year-old’s commitment and desire in training all season, despite the fact that he only became a regular substitute towards the back end of the campaign and almost never started a match.

However, match-winning goals against Everton, Newcastle and Barcelona have played Origi back into full contention, and his strike against Tottenham in the final has now made Liverpool’s mind up about keeping him at Anfield beyond the end of his current deal.

“There’s an offer for a new contract on the table,” Origi confirmed.

“We will see after the international games, but I think there will be talks with the club.”
