Liverpool dealt blow in left-back pursuit

Liverpool have been handed a blow in their pursuit of a replacement for outgoing defender Alberto Moreno, according to Birmingham Live via The Independent.
The Reds are on the hunt for a new left-back to replace the Spaniard, though any incoming player will act as deputy to first-choice Andy Robertson.
Liverpool had identified Matt Targett of Southampton as a potential candidate to help bolster the defence ahead of next season.

However, it now appears as though Targett won’t be going anywhere as Southampton already have plans for him.
The Saints have decided to sell Ryan Bertrand this summer and promote Targett to first-choice in the left-back position, meaning any interest from Liverpool or Aston Villa will be waved away.
A number of clubs are interested in signing Bertrand, including Inter Milan, but the Reds aren’t believed to be among the suitors.
