RB Leipzig boss provides update on Timo Werner transfer situation

RB Leipzig manager Ralf Rangnick has claimed his side have not yet received any offers for striker Timo Werner amid interest from around Europe.

Rangnick hopes the 23-year-old will stay at the club, despite the fact that he’s still refusing to sign an extension to his contract, which ends next summer.

Liverpool and Bayern Munich are among the clubs keen on signing the German international, who scored 16 goals and notched nine assists in the Bundesliga last season.

His manager, however, denied that any offers have been made for him at this point.

“Timo is of the opinion that he does not want to extend the contract,” he told Kicker (cited by Goal).

“So far, no club has reported their interest or said they would speak with Timo and want to sign him.

“It’s not a good idea for Timo to go into the final year of his contract, which could be difficult for his relationship with the fans depending on how his performance turns out.”

He continued: “My opinion is that Timo fits best here, also in terms of style of play.

“If I were his advisor or father, I would clearly advise him to stay and extend his contract.

“When a really big club comes in for him and he wants to leave, he can still do that.”
